2024 Scholarship Winners
The Worship Grove, Christian Formation, and the Mission Grove are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 Susan J. Redcay Music Scholarship & the Olga Brands Scholarship. Please join us as we celebrate these three incredible recipients on Acknowledgement Sunday, June 9th, and wish them much success as they continue on their faithful journeys of higher education.
Olga Brands Scholarship:
Olga Brands was a faithful Christian and devoted member of our Pilgrim family. She was an elementary teacher and librarian for over 30 years. Olga was passionate about all children deserving a full, rounded education.
This year, the scholarship committee is pleased to present the $500 Olga Brands Memorial Scholarship to Cameron Johnson as he graduates from Phillipsburg High School. Cameron is a faithful member of Pilgrim, beginning as a child attending Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. He has shared his musical talents with us on many occasions. More recently, he has served as a teen volunteer helping with Christian Formation and assisting with musical programs.
In the community, Cameron is busy with swim team, soccer, and tennis. This year he has shown leadership as captain of the swim and tennis teams. Through school clubs, Cameron has performed many hours of community service. He is also completing his Eagle Project at the American Legion Post 456 in Stewartsville.
Our prayers will go with him as he continues his studies at York College of Pennsylvania, majoring in marketing.
Susan J. Redcay Music Scholarship:
[Contributions to this ongoing scholarship fund may be made payable to Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, Attention: Susan J. Redcay Music Scholarship.]
This annual scholarship, established in honor of Sue Redcay's retirement from many faithful years as Pilgrim’s Director of Music and Organist, is open to any Phillipsburg High School senior who will be majoring in music or musical theater at an accredited 4 year conservatory, college or university. The scholarship is presented at the Phillipsburg High School Awards Night Ceremony. This year, several talented and qualified students applied. Because of this, the scholarship committee is pleased to be able to offer an additional scholarship in the amount of $750.
The $1,000 scholarship is presented to Alexis Gable. She will be continuing her studies as a music education major at Kutztown University. During her high school years, Alexis has shared her talents through participation in the pit orchestra, and many various bands, parades and ceremonies. She volunteers her musical talents for community events and participates in several other community service projects. Academically, she has distinguished herself by earning a place on the Principal’s list. In the community, Alexis serves as an alpha Volunteer Firefighter.
The $750 scholarship is presented to Danica Finken. Danica will be attending Moravian University for Music performance in the fall. She began to hone her vocal music participation in middle school. During her high school years, she has been a member of the choir and drama clubs, where she was able to share her talents in productions. Additionally, Danica has performed the National Anthem as a featured performer for a number of organizations.
We wish both of these ladies continued success as they develop and share their talents.
